Tomato Berry, also known as strawberry tomato, is a vigorous variety with small, round, slightly pointed fruit and bright red colour.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate plant that can reach about 30 cm in height when container-grown.
Sow in a heated seedbed between mid-February and April; greenhouse transplanting starts March 15, open-field from April 15 to June 15.
It needs well-fertilised organic soil and support, such as a stake or canes, to grow properly; plant at 30 cm along the row and 80 cm between rows.
The small, strawberry-shaped fruits, bright red, weigh about 15-20 grams and are harvested at full ripeness.
Good resistance to tomato yellow leaf curl virus and tomato mosaic virus; it still benefits from mulching to retain soil moisture.
Thanks to its low acidity and high lycopene content, with thick flesh, it is ideal for fresh use and snacking.
Particularly rich in lycopene compared to other varieties, Tomato Berry has antioxidant properties that support overall wellbeing.
