Rio Grande dwarf H1281 tomato is a Roma-type dwarf sauce variety, with firm oval fruits ideal for preserves and purees.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A compact determinate plant, limited height, also suited to container growing.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant in April-May, once frost risk has passed.
Thanks to its dwarf habit it needs little or no staking; suited to small gardens or intensive growing for processing purposes.
The firm, thick-skinned oval fruits ripen fairly uniformly and are well suited to mechanical or bulk harvesting.
The compact habit favours airflow; still susceptible to common fungal diseases in humid conditions.
A sauce variety par excellence: the firm, low-seed flesh is perfect for sauces, purees and homemade preserves.
Rich in lycopene, Rio Grande dwarf tomato has antioxidant properties and a high dry matter content, ideal for processing.
