Black Cherry tomato is a very intense dark reddish-brown cherry tomato, prized for its rich, slightly smoky flavour.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A vigorous indeterminate plant, with long, productive trusses.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant in April-May, once frost risk has passed.
Requires sturdy staking and regular side-shoot removal; sunny exposure favours the development of its typical dark colouring.
The small round fruits turn an intense, almost black reddish-brown at full ripeness; harvest as they ripen for a continuous yield.
Benefits from good canopy ventilation to prevent fungal diseases typical of indeterminate varieties in humid conditions.
Highly appreciated for its sweet flavour with smoky notes, excellent eaten fresh as a snack or in gourmet salads.
Rich in anthocyanins and lycopene responsible for its dark colouring, it has antioxidant properties superior to traditional red varieties.
