Valido datterino tomato is a small, elongated variety with the characteristic date-like shape, very sweet and productive on long trusses.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate plant with long truss habit, ideal for staked cultivation.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant into the field or pots from April to May.
It needs vertical staking and regular tying; removing side shoots favours more uniform, numerous trusses.
Fruits, about 15-20 g, are harvested as whole trusses once fully red, for excellent post-harvest storage.
Like other truss varieties, monitor for powdery mildew and downy mildew, with good canopy ventilation.
Perfect eaten fresh whole in salads, for appetisers and as a garnish thanks to its sweetness and firm flesh.
Rich in lycopene and natural sugars, Valido datterino tomato has antioxidant properties and a very sweet taste.
