Penny dwarf drop tomato is a compact, productive variety, ideal for pot growing, with small drop-shaped fruits and a sweet, intense flavour.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A dwarf, compact plant that doesn't exceed 40-50 cm in height, perfect for balconies and terraces.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, with soil temperature between 20 and 25°C; transplant after the last frosts, generally in May.
Thanks to its compact habit it needs no staking; it prefers roomy pots with well-draining substrate and regular watering, even daily during the hottest months.
Harvest is staggered from July to September: the small drop-shaped fruits should be picked once they reach full red colouring for maximum sweetness.
It can be affected by downy mildew and powdery mildew in conditions of high humidity; good sun exposure and ventilation reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
The small drop-shaped fruits are eaten fresh in salads, as a snack or to garnish dishes, thanks to the concentrated sweetness typical of mini varieties.
Rich in lycopene, vitamin C and potassium, Penny tomato has antioxidant properties beneficial to overall wellbeing.
