White Utopia Cauliflower is a hybrid variety with a late growing cycle, upright habit and excellent quality. The head is round and globe-shaped, with a very uniform pure white colour.
Its botanical name is Brassica oleracea var. botrytis, belonging to the Cruciferae family (Brassicaceae). The plant has an upright habit and excellent leaf coverage, which effectively covers and protects the head from disease and adverse weather.
Being a very late-cycle variety, transplanting must be planned well in advance: the growing cycle requires 190-200 days from transplant to head maturity.
White Utopia cauliflower prefers medium-textured, cool, well-drained soils with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Thanks to its excellent productivity, it suits both the fresh market and processing industry, maintaining consistent quality throughout the cycle.
Harvest when the florets of the head are still tightly closed and compact, cutting plants at the collar and leaving a few protective leaves.
Given its very long time in the field, it is important to keep the soil free of weeds and periodically monitor plant health. Respect transplanting distances (50-60 cm along the row, 60-80 cm between rows), wider for late, vigorous varieties like this one.
Like other Brassicaceae, it can be affected by downy mildew and bacterial diseases, favoured by prolonged humidity. Cabbage white caterpillars are the most common pests: good weed control and targeted Bacillus thuringiensis treatments help keep them in check.
White Utopia cauliflower is low in calories yet highly nutritious, rich in vitamin C, fibre and minerals such as potassium and phosphorus. It is an excellent source of fresh vegetables during the winter months, when seasonal produce is more limited.
