Tomato eggplant is a curious, decorative variety, with round fruits and red-orange skin reminiscent of a ripe tomato.
The Tomato Eggplant Plant
It belongs to the species Solanum melongena, family Solanaceae, a close relative of the tomato. An annual herbaceous plant producing round fruits with an unusual colour compared to classic purple varieties.
How to Sow Tomato Eggplant
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, with soil temperature between 20 and 30°C; transplant once the seedling reaches 15-20 cm in height.

It prefers sunny spots and soil rich in organic matter, with regular watering for even fruit development through to full ripeness.
