Lord Ruthvendo Powder is obtained by grinding this all-Italian variety created by the Drax farm, named after the protagonist of John William Polidori's novel "The Vampyre".
source plant, of the species Capsicum chinense and a Black Naga variant, is large and sturdy, with very wrinkled fruits that can exceed 10 cm in length.
powder comes from fruits grown from seeds sown between February and March in a seedbed at 24-28°C, harvested at full ripeness when the skin turns dark brown, almost black.
slow drying preserves the fruits' intense aroma, followed by fine grinding that yields a dark, even powder.
it should be stored in an airtight container away from light and moisture, and dosed with caution: a few grams are enough to make an entire dish spicy.
when handling it, gloves and a mask should be worn, as the concentrated powder can irritate skin, eyes and airways even from a distance.
Lord Ruthvendo Powder has an extreme heat level (about 900,000 SHU) with a strong, intense flavour: perfect in small doses for dark sauces, marinades and stews.
it concentrates high doses of capsaicin, responsible for its heat, along with good amounts of vitamin A and antioxidants.
