Chile de Arbol Velvet powder is made by grinding this Mexican variant with thin, elongated fruits that resemble a mouse tail.
The source pepper, Capsicum annuum, is appreciated and mainly grown in Mexico, with a bushy, productive plant similar to the classic Chile de Arbol.
Seeds for fruit production are started between February and March, transplanting after the last frosts in a sunny spot.
Growing favors well-drained soil and full sun exposure, with regular watering that avoids waterlogging.
The long, thin pods turn from green to red at full ripeness and must be fully dried before fine grinding.
Waterlogging that favors root rot must be prevented; good drainage and airy positioning reduce the main risks.
Chile de Arbol Velvet powder has a medium-low heat level, around 25,000 SHU, with a clean, sharp flavor, ideal for Mexican sauces, chili and marinades.
Rich in capsaicin and vitamin A, typical of dried red peppers.
