Tomato Pepper powder is made by grinding this curious pepper with a round, flattened shape, resembling a small tomato.
The source pepper, Capsicum baccatum, grows on a vigorous, well-branched plant up to one meter tall, highly productive.
Sowing takes place between February and March in a heated seedbed, transplanting after the last spring frosts.
It prefers sunny spots and well-drained soil; it tolerates summer heat well and produces fruit until autumn.
The fruits have a distinctive round, flattened, tomato-like shape, ripening from green to bright red, and must be fully dried before grinding.
Watch out for waterlogging and aphids; ensure good air circulation between plants.
The powder has a medium-low heat level, around 30,000-50,000 SHU, with fruity notes: great for sauces, marinades and meat dishes.
Rich in capsaicin and vitamin C, typical of dried Capsicum baccatum peppers.
