More info

Dried California Reaper Peach Pepper

Dried California Reaper Peach Pepper is the dried version of a hybrid born from crossing Carolina Reaper with Peach Ghost Scorpion, belonging to the species Capsicum chinense. It shares extreme heat with Carolina Reaper, up to 2,000,000 Scoville Heat Units, but stands out for a distinctive sweet, fruity aftertaste.

The California Reaper Peach Plant

The plant is vigorous and large, able to exceed 100-120 cm outdoors, with a bushy, small tree-like habit. Leaves are dark green, heart-shaped and drooping, flowers are white. Fruits ripen from green to a very pale pink-peach color, almost white.

How to Sow California Reaper Peach

Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C: Capsicum chinense germination is slow, often 3-4 weeks.

How to Grow California Reaper Peach

Transplant from May, once night temperatures stay stably above 15°C. It prefers full sun, constant exposure and fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter; given the plant's size, a large container is needed for pot cultivation.

Heat Level and Care Tips for California Reaper Peach

Given its extreme heat, always handle fruits with disposable gloves and avoid tasting raw. During drying, keep the product away from direct drafts and excessive heat sources.

Diseases and Pests of California Reaper Peach

Like other Capsicum chinense, it can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly, especially under protected cultivation with poor ventilation.

Properties and Uses of California Reaper Peach

Capsaicin, responsible for the heat, has thermogenic properties and boosts metabolism. Dried California Reaper Peach pepper, hot with sweet, citrusy notes, is great for sauces and powders, especially paired with fish dishes.
