Dried Carolina Snake Pepper

Dried Carolina Snake Pepper is the dried version of Carolina Snake, an F1 hybrid that appeared spontaneously from a Carolina Reaper plant, belonging to the species Capsicum chinense. It takes its name from the fruit's characteristic elongated, wavy shape reminiscent of a snake, reaching heat up to 1,800,000-2,000,000 Scoville Heat Units.

The Carolina Snake Plant

Growth habit is very similar to Carolina Reaper, with an upright, greenish, slightly hairy stem. Leaves share the same color and fuzz as the stem. Fruits are long and tapered, with a distinctive sinuous, twisted shape, turning deep red, almost dark red, at full ripeness.

How to Sow Carolina Snake

Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C: Capsicum chinense germination is slow, often 3-4 weeks.

How to Grow Carolina Snake

Transplant from May, once night temperatures stay stably above 15°C. It prefers full sun, wind shelter and fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.

Heat Level and Care Tips for Carolina Snake

Given its extremely high heat, always handle fruits with disposable gloves. During drying, keep the product away from direct drafts and excessive heat sources to preserve color and aroma.

Diseases and Pests of Carolina Snake

Like other Capsicum chinense, it can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly, especially under protected cultivation with poor ventilation.

Properties and Uses of Carolina Snake

Capsaicin, responsible for the heat, has thermogenic properties and boosts metabolism. Dried Carolina Snake pepper, with a bold aromatic flavor and pungent aroma, is used as powder, sauces or concentrated extracts, always in minimal doses.
