Dried Rimmerhus Fun Strain Pepper is the dried version of a strange variant of Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Chocolate, belonging to the species Capsicum chinense, discovered by chance in 2013 among Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Chocolate plants. An F5 hybrid with the classic Capsicum chinense flavor, aromatic hints and extreme heat around 1,500,000 Scoville Heat Units.
The plant resembles Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Chocolate: low and compact, spreading mostly in width, reaching about one meter tall. It is very leafy, with oval bright green leaves. Its distinctive feature is the fruit, bizarre-shaped and highly variable on the same plant: some resemble a Peter Pepper, others a Carolina Reaper with extra points, with a solid, compact, smooth surface.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C: Capsicum chinense germination is slow, often 3-4 weeks.
Transplant from May, once night temperatures stay stably above 15°C. It grows well outdoors or in very large pots, but is not suited to small spaces like balconies or small containers.
Given its extreme heat, always handle fruits with disposable gloves and avoid tasting raw. During drying, keep the product away from direct drafts and excessive heat sources.
Like other Capsicum chinense, it can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly, especially under protected cultivation with poor ventilation.
Capsaicin, responsible for the heat, has thermogenic properties and boosts metabolism. Dried Rimmerhus Fun Strain pepper, with a sweet flavor paired with aromatic notes, is used as powder, sauces or concentrated extracts, always in minimal doses.
