Dried Sepia Serpent Pepper

Dried Sepia Serpent Pepper is the dried version of a formidable hybrid belonging to the species Capsicum chinense, bred from Trinidad Scorpion Butch T and Trinidad Douglah. Its name evokes the dark color and rugged, almost reptilian skin texture, with extreme heat paired with a surprisingly complex, sweet and citrusy flavor profile.

The Sepia Serpent Plant

The plant is vigorous and well-branched, with intense green leaves. The fruits ripen from green to deep red and finally to a rich sepia-brown color, with a thick, blistered skin that gives them a rough, distinctive appearance.

How to Sow Sepia Serpent

Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C: Capsicum chinense germination is slow, often 3-4 weeks.

How to Grow Sepia Serpent

Transplant from May, once night temperatures stay stably above 15°C. It prefers full sun, rich well-drained soil, regular watering and supportive fertilization throughout the season.

Heat Level and Care Tips for Sepia Serpent

The capsaicin content is extremely high: always handle with disposable gloves, avoiding any contact with eyes and mucous membranes. During drying, keep the product away from direct drafts and excessive heat sources.

Diseases and Pests of Sepia Serpent

Like other Capsicum chinense, it can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly, especially under protected cultivation with poor ventilation.

Properties and Uses of Sepia Serpent

Capsaicin, responsible for the heat, has thermogenic properties and boosts metabolism. Dried Sepia Serpent pepper, with a complex flavor showing hazelnut, citrus and a sweet fruity base, is used as powder, sauces or concentrated extracts, always in minimal doses.
