Dried CGN 21500 Pepper is a semi-wild Brazilian landrace belonging to the species Capsicum chinense, also known as Purple Peach or Sunset Peach after its catalogue name at the Wageningen genetic resources bank (Netherlands), where it is preserved.
The tall, vigorous plant produces small round fruits that ripen to an unusual color, from dark purple to peach-orange with pink shades, making it visually striking even as an ornamental.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C until germination, which may take 3-4 weeks given the semi-wild nature of this genotype.
Transplant from May, once night temperatures stay stably above 15°C. It prefers full sun, fertile well-drained soil, regular watering without waterlogging and periodic potassium-rich fertilization during fruiting.
The heat level is medium-high (about 80,000-120,000 SHU, just below habanero): gloves are still recommended when handling the fruits, avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
It can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly, especially under protected cultivation with poor ventilation; good air circulation reduces the risk of powdery mildew.
The high capsaicin content gives strong thermogenic and metabolism-stimulating properties. Dried CGN 21500 pepper, prized for its sweet, fruity, tropical flavor as well as its unusual color, is used ground into powder or flakes for sauces and exotic dishes.
