Dried Habanero White Giant Pepper is a rare Habanero variety belonging to the species Capsicum chinense, originally from the Caribbean, prized for its above-average fruit size and unusual color.
The vigorous, productive plant, 100-120 cm tall, often grows wider than it is tall; the square, pendant fruits are green when unripe and ripen to an ivory-white color, larger (3-4 cm) than average white Habaneros.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C; germination can be slower than average, sometimes taking 3-4 weeks.
Transplant from April to June, once temperatures start to rise steadily. It prefers full sun or partial shade, shelter from wind, permeable fertile soil, and a small stake to support the stem.
The heat level is very high (about 200,000-300,000 SHU): gloves are essential when handling the fruits, carefully avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
The plant is generally resistant to pests, fungi and drought, though it can be affected by aphids and whitefly under protected cultivation with poor ventilation.
The high capsaicin content gives strong thermogenic and metabolism-stimulating properties. Dried Habanero White Giant pepper, prized for its fruity, floral flavor with a sweet aftertaste, is used ground into powder or flakes, excellent with fish, salads and vegetarian dishes.
