Dried Habanero Yellow Pepper is a Habanero cultivar belonging to the species Capsicum chinense, prized for its characteristic golden yellow color at full maturity.
The plant has a multi-stem, upright habit with ovate leaves of a not too intense green; the fruits, with the typical lantern shape and wrinkled surface, turn from green to golden yellow at maturity.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C until germination, which usually takes 2-3 weeks.
Transplant from April to June, once temperatures start to rise steadily. It prefers full sun or partial shade, shelter from wind, permeable fertile soil, and a small stake to support the stem.
The heat level is high (about 300,000-400,000 SHU): gloves are essential when handling the fruits, carefully avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
It can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly; avoiding wetting the foliage during watering reduces the risk of fungal disease.
The high capsaicin content gives strong thermogenic and metabolism-stimulating properties. Dried Habanero Yellow pepper, prized for the fruity, citrusy flavor typical of the Habanero family, is used ground into powder or flakes for very spicy sauces.
