Dried Pimenta da Neyde White Pepper is an F2 hybrid selected in 2016, belonging to the Pimenta da Neyde family (Capsicum chinense), notable for its medium-small fruit with an elongated tip that turns yellow at maturity.
The plant has a branched, small-tree habit, with green oval-lanceolate leaves; the fruits, medium-small and tapering toward the tip, turn yellow at full maturity.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, keeping temperatures constant at 25-28°C until germination, which usually takes 2-3 weeks.
Transplant from April to June, once temperatures start to rise steadily. It adapts well to the Italian climate, like other varieties in the Neyde family, and is resistant to common pests and diseases.
The heat level is high (about 200,000 SHU): gloves are essential when handling the fruits, carefully avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
It can be affected by aphids, spider mites and whitefly; avoiding wetting the foliage during watering reduces the risk of fungal disease.
The high capsaicin content gives strong thermogenic and metabolism-stimulating properties. Dried Pimenta da Neyde White pepper, prized for the fruity flavor typical of the Neyde family, is used ground into powder or flakes for spicy jams and sauces.
