The dried Chupetinho White pepper is a selected variant of the better-known Brazilian Chupetinho, developed in Italy to offer a much more intense heat than the original version. The fruits have the characteristic small lantern shape, wide at the base and pointed at the tip, and ripen from green to a uniform creamy white.
plant belongs to the species Capsicum chinense and grows as a compact shrub, generally not exceeding 1 meter in height. The leaves tend to open upward and the plant is very productive, yielding numerous small fruits concentrated along the branches.
sowing should be done between February and April, in a heated seedbed at constant temperatures of 26-28°C, typical timing for Capsicum chinense varieties that require more patience than other species. Transplanting outdoors or into a final pot should only happen after the last risk of frost, once the plant has developed at least 4-5 true leaves.
growing requires full sun exposure and fertile, well-drained soil. Being highly productive, the plant benefits from regular potassium-based feeding throughout the fruiting season. Its compact habit also makes it suitable for small spaces, as long as it receives direct light for most of the day.
being a compact-sized plant, Chupetinho White adapts very well to pot growing on balconies and terraces. It is advisable to keep soil moisture constant, avoiding both waterlogging and prolonged dry spells, so as not to compromise flower set and regular fruit formation.
like other Capsicum chinense, it can be affected by aphids, whitefly and red spider mites, especially under protected cultivation or during the hottest summer months. Good soil drainage and proper air circulation between plants reduce the risk of root rot and fungal diseases linked to excess moisture.
unlike the traditional Chupetinho, the White variety is much hotter, with values that can reach 100,000 SHU on the Scoville scale. It is used fresh or dried to season sauces, pickles and meat or fish dishes, adding a decisive heat kick combined with the fruity notes typical of Capsicum chinense.
like all hot peppers, dried Chupetinho White is rich in capsaicin, the compound responsible for the sensation of heat, associated with thermogenic and circulation-stimulating properties. It also retains good amounts of vitamin C and natural antioxidants typical of dried peppers.
