dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper

The dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper is a yellow variant of the classic Brazilian Chupetinho, whose name comes from the Portuguese word for "pacifier": the fruits, in fact, resemble a baby's pacifier in shape. They turn from light green to intense yellow at full ripeness, reaching a maximum length of 3.5 cm and a diameter of about 2 cm, with a smooth, regular surface.

The dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper Plant

plant belongs to the species Capsicum chinense and has a compact, bushy, very sturdy habit, reaching a height of about 65 cm and a diameter of 80 cm. It is very leafy, with dark green oval leaves, and produces few white flowers per node, usually two or three, from which numerous hanging fruits develop.

How to Sow dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper

sowing should be done between February and April, in a heated seedbed at constant temperatures of 26-28°C, as for other Capsicum chinense varieties. Ripening is rather slow, requiring about 120 days from transplanting to obtain fully ripe yellow fruits.

How to Grow dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper

growing favors full sun exposure right from transplanting, with moderate, never excessive watering. The ideal soil is fertile, well-drained and rich in organic matter, conditions that favor the abundant production typical of this variety.

Tips for dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper

thanks to its compact habit, Chupetinho Yellow is an excellent choice for pot growing on sunny balconies and terraces, where its leafy, productive nature is also decorative. It does not need staking given its small size, but benefits from regular watering during the hottest months.

Diseases and Pests of dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper

like other Capsicum chinense, it can be affected by aphids, whitefly and red spider mites, especially under protected or pot cultivation. Good air circulation between plants and adequate soil drainage help prevent the main fungal issues.

Uses and Curiosities of dried Chupetinho Yellow pepper

Chupetinho Yellow reaches a medium-high heat level, up to 100,000 SHU on the Scoville scale. Dried, it is used to season sauces, ragùs and meat or fish dishes, and is also appreciated as a decorative element for its distinctive shape and bright color.
