dried Macarena Penis pepper

The dried Macarena Penis pepper is an F1 hybrid variant of the impressive Italian Macarena variety, selected by researcher Mario Dadomo at the Stuard experimental farm in Parma. The fruits have an aerodynamic, elongated shape, closely resembling a penis — hence the name — ripening from green to a deep red color.

The dried Macarena Penis pepper Plant

plant belongs to the species Capsicum chinense and has an upright habit reaching about 60 cm in height, with oval leaves lighter green than the original Macarena and white flowers. Stem and branches are very flexible and resistant to wind and storms.

How to Sow dried Macarena Penis pepper

sowing should be done between February and April, in a heated seedbed at constant temperatures of 26-28°C, as for other Capsicum chinense varieties. Fruits reach full ripeness in about 110-120 days from transplanting.

How to Grow dried Macarena Penis pepper

growing favors full sun exposure and fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. The unusual sturdiness of stem and branches makes it well suited even to windy or exposed areas.

Tips for dried Macarena Penis pepper

thanks to the unusual, eye-catching shape of its fruits, Macarena Penis is highly valued by collectors and as a curious ornamental plant. It does not need staking thanks to the resistance of its branches, but benefits from regular watering without water stagnation.

Diseases and Pests of dried Macarena Penis pepper

like other Capsicum chinense, it is generally resistant to bacteria and pests, but can occasionally be affected by aphids and red spider mites, especially under protected cultivation. Good air circulation between plants helps prevent the main fungal issues.

Uses and Curiosities of dried Macarena Penis pepper

Macarena Penis reaches a medium-high heat level, estimated around 50,000 SHU on the Scoville scale. Dried, it is ground into powder or used in flakes to flavor sauces, preserves and traditional Italian spicy dishes.

Properties of dried Macarena Penis pepper

like all hot peppers, dried Macarena Penis is rich in capsaicin, the compound responsible for its heat and with rubefacient properties stimulating circulation, as well as particularly high amounts of vitamin C.
