Dried Dragon's Claw pepper is an Italian variety whose name comes from the curved, pointed shape of its fruits, resembling the claw of a fire-breathing dragon.
plant, of the species Capsicum annuum, is small and well suited to container growing: it reaches a maximum height of 50 centimeters, with a bushy, leafy shape.
sowing should be done between February and March in a seedbed at 22-26°C, transplanting after the last frosts; the plant produces purple flowers, about a couple per node.
growing requires direct sun exposure and regular watering that avoids waterlogging; the plant is quite prolific when grown correctly.
the fruits, very fleshy and rich in placenta, reach a maximum length of 4 centimeters and a diameter of 1.5 cm, with an elongated, conical, curved shape; they turn from light green to deep red at full ripeness.
waterlogging, which favors root rot, must be prevented, along with monitoring for aphids, especially under protected or container cultivation.
Dragon's Claw has a low heat level, around 25,000 SHU on the Scoville scale, with a pleasant sweet aftertaste: ideal for those who love heat but can't tolerate extreme temperatures, excellent dried and ground into powder or flakes.
dried and containing capsaicin, though in modest amounts given its low heat, Dragon's Claw retains a good content of carotenoids responsible for its bright red color.
