Dried Tomato Pepper takes its name from the rounded, slightly flattened shape of the fruits, closely resembling a small tomato.
plant, of the species Capsicum annuum, is compact and bushy, about 40-60 centimeters tall, highly productive and suited to container growing too.
sowing should be done between February and March in a seedbed at 22-26°C, transplanting after the last frosts; fruits ripen in about 80-90 days from transplant.
growing requires full sun exposure and regular watering without waterlogging, with soil rich in organic matter and well-drained.
the round, slightly flattened fruits, tomato-shaped, turn from green to vivid red at full ripeness, with fleshy walls suited for stuffing.
waterlogging, which favors root rot, must be prevented, along with monitoring for aphids, especially under protected or container cultivation.
Tomato Pepper has a low-medium heat level, between 2,500 and 8,000 SHU on the Scoville scale: excellent dried and ground into powder, but traditionally stuffed with tuna and capers preserved in oil.
dried and rich in capsaicin, responsible for its mild heat, it also retains good amounts of vitamin C and carotenoids.
