Elongated Yellow Mohai pepper is a mid-early variety, highly resistant to disease, producing a squared, elongated yellow fruit with sweet, thick, meaty flesh that can exceed 800 grams in weight at full maturity.
Botanically it is a Capsicum annuum, part of the Solanaceae family. The plant is vigorous, upright and naturally resistant to viruses. The fruits, elongated and slightly squared in shape, have tender flesh with excellent flavor, low acidity and few seeds.
It is a highly productive variety, suitable for both field cultivation and home gardens.
Sowing takes place in a heated seedbed, burying the seeds about 0.5-1 cm deep, in a warm, bright location. Transplanting into the garden takes place between March and June, once seedlings have developed sufficiently and the risk of late frosts has passed.
Peppers adapt to any soil type, preferring fertile, medium-textured, well-drained soil in a sunny position. At transplanting it is important to fertilize generously with fast-acting organic matter to support the plant's initial growth.
It is recommended to remove the first fruits produced while still small, to encourage vegetative growth and achieve more abundant production in later stages.
Watering should be regular, increasing frequency during hot periods and avoiding waterlogging, which can harm the root system. Companion planting with lettuce favors more balanced plant growth.
Common pests include aphids, thrips and red spider mite, which are more prevalent in hot, dry conditions. Thanks to this variety's natural virus resistance, the risk of viral infections is reduced compared to other cultivars.
The fruits of this pepper are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, with a very low calorie content. Thanks to its sweet, meaty flesh, it is excellent both raw in salads and cooked in grilled dishes and side dishes.
