The Yellow Ringo Bull's Horn Pepper is an elongated, horn-shaped variety with smooth skin and a bright, uniform yellow color at full ripeness. The flesh is thick, meaty and mildly sweet, perfect both eaten fresh and cooked in a pan or on the grill.
Its botanical name is Capsicum annuum, belonging to the Solanaceae family. The plant has an upright, vigorous and stable habit, with wide, covering foliage that shields the fruits from direct sun exposure, preserving their color and texture.
The fruits reach 18-20 cm in length and ripen in about 70 days from transplanting, making this one of the earliest varieties in the bull's horn group.
Sowing takes place in a protected seedbed from January to March, keeping a constant temperature around 20-22°C to encourage even germination. Transplanting outdoors or into pots takes place in April-May, once the risk of late frosts has passed.
The Yellow Ringo Bull's Horn Pepper prefers fertile, deep, well-drained soil with a good capacity to retain moisture without waterlogging. A density of 3-4 plants per square meter is recommended, in a sunny position sheltered from strong wind.
As the plants grow, they can reach considerable heights, so staking is useful to prevent the weight of the fruits from breaking the stems. Watering should stay regular, avoiding both prolonged drought and waterlogging.
Harvest when the fruits have reached their full bright yellow color, cutting them cleanly to avoid damaging the plant. A base organic fertilization with well-rotted manure or compost supports even development and abundant production throughout the growing cycle.
Like other pepper varieties, it can be subject to attacks by aphids and red spider mites, controllable with natural garlic or nettle macerates, and to root rot in case of prolonged waterlogging. Good soil drainage and crop rotation, avoiding repeated Solanaceae cultivation on the same plot for several consecutive years, are important preventive measures.
The Yellow Ringo Bull's Horn Pepper is rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene and natural antioxidants, with a good potassium content and low calorie count. It is a particularly suitable food for a balanced diet and provides fiber useful for digestive regularity.
