Everbearing Strawberries Seeds

Growing Everbearing Strawberries from seed produces plants capable of flowering and fruiting several times during the season, yielding 800-1,200 g of strawberries per plant spread across the year, instead of a single concentrated harvest.

The Everbearing Strawberry Plant

Its botanical name is Fragaria x ananassa, belonging to the Rosaceae family. It is a small, hardy perennial shrub, about 15-20 cm tall, with bright green basal trifoliate leaves and white five-petaled flowers.

Unlike single-crop varieties, which concentrate fruiting in a single spring period, this type produces in a staggered way, with medium-small fruit size and excellent sugar content.

How to Sow Everbearing Strawberries

Sowing is done in a protected seedbed between February and March, in a light substrate kept moist. Seedlings are transplanted outdoors once they have developed a few true leaves, generally in spring.

How to Grow Everbearing Strawberries

It adapts very well to pot or window-box cultivation, provided it is not too deep (15-20 cm is enough), using well-drained substrates with a pH between 5.5 and 7 and a drainage layer at the bottom of the container.

In open ground it prefers cool soil rich in organic matter, in a sunny or slightly shaded position in warmer areas.

Tips for Growing Everbearing Strawberries

For abundant harvests it is recommended to plant at least 12-18 seedlings and to pick the fruit every 2-5 days, more frequently during hotter periods when ripening speeds up.

Diseases and Pests of the Everbearing Strawberry

Like other strawberries, it can be subject to attacks by aphids, mites and slugs, as well as grey mold (Botrytis) in excessively humid conditions. Good air circulation between plants and proper mulching help prevent fungal infections.

Properties of the Everbearing Strawberry

Rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber, this variety offers fresh fruit over an extended period, ideal for both direct consumption and jams, desserts and fruit salads.
