San Marzano Big Tiren tomato is a highly productive variety yielding large, elongated fruit with smooth, even skin and deep red colour.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate, vigorous plant, highly productive throughout the season.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant outdoors or in greenhouse between April and May.
It needs sturdy staking given its indeterminate habit and fruit size; regular watering favours even elongation of the fruit.
The elongated fruits, with smooth even skin, are harvested once the deep red colour covers the whole surface.
Like other San Marzano varieties it benefits from good canopy ventilation to prevent downy and powdery mildew, plus steady watering against blossom-end rot.
Thanks to its tasty, firm flesh, it is ideal both for sauces and preserves and for fresh use in salads.
Rich in lycopene, vitamin C and potassium, San Marzano Big Tiren tomato has antioxidant properties beneficial to overall wellbeing.
