Lobello datterino tomato is the classic red datterino variety par excellence, prized for its unmistakable flavour and excellent shelf life.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate, vigorous plant with short internodes and excellent productivity.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant between April and May, once temperatures are steadily above 10°C.
It needs staking given its indeterminate growth; companion planting with basil and periodic removal of side shoots are recommended.
The cylindrical, pear-shaped fruits, 18-22 grams, are gathered in regular fishbone-style trusses and show good tolerance to cracking and blossom end rot.
It shows high resistance to Verticillium, Fusarium and tomato mosaic virus, with intermediate resistance to nematodes.
Firm with a resistant skin, it keeps well even when hung; excellent raw in salads, for sweet sauces and outstanding preserved in oil.
Rich in lycopene, vitamin C and potassium, Lobello datterino tomato has antioxidant properties beneficial to overall wellbeing.
