Crimson Crush round smooth tomato is renowned for its exceptional resistance to late blight, with smooth round fruits of intense red colour.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A vigorous indeterminate plant, bred for high resistance to Phytophthora infestans (late blight).
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant in April-May, protecting from late frosts.
Thanks to its genetic resistance to late blight, it is particularly suited to outdoor growing even in humid areas; still requires staking and removal of side shoots.
The smooth round fruits reach a rich vivid red colour at ripeness; harvest when fully coloured for the best flavour.
Specific genetic resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans), one of the main threats to tomato crops in humid climates; good canopy ventilation also helps.
A versatile table variety, excellent both raw in salads and cooked for sauces; particularly suited to growers in blight-prone areas.
Rich in lycopene and vitamin C, Crimson Crush has strong antioxidant properties and retains good nutritional value even after cooking.
