Marmande chocolate cappuccino tomato is a coloured variant of the classic Marmande, with flattened ribbed fruits of a distinctive chocolate-brown hue.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A compact semi-determinate plant, typical of the Marmande group, with good productivity.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant in April-May, once seedlings have 4-5 true leaves.
The compact habit requires light staking; prefers fertile, well-drained soils with regular watering for even fruit development.
The flattened, deeply ribbed fruits turn from green to chocolate-brown at full ripeness; harvest once evenly coloured to bring out the flavour.
Like other Marmande varieties, it benefits from good canopy ventilation to prevent rot in humid conditions.
A slicing variety with an original taste, perfect for mixed salads with a distinctive colour and for gourmet plates with other coloured tomatoes.
Rich in lycopene and the anthocyanins responsible for its dark colour, it has antioxidant properties superior to traditional red varieties.
