Pantano Romanesco Old Selection tomato is the historic Lazio variety from which many modern selections derive: ribbed, flattened fruit with intense flavour and a long farming tradition.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A medium-sized indeterminate plant, traditionally grown in the Castelli Romani area.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant outdoors from April, with light staking.
It prefers well-drained volcanic soil typical of the Roman area, with regular, moderate watering.
The flattened, ribbed fruit weighs about 150-200 g, with characteristic green-reddish skin and juicy flesh.
A rustic variety like other old selections, still worth protecting from downy mildew in humid seasons.
Perfect for summer salads and the classic Roman preparation with olive oil, salt and basil.
Rich in lycopene and vitamin C, Pantano Romanesco Old Selection tomato has antioxidant properties and an intense, slightly tangy flavour.
