Perbruzzo pear tomato is a pear-shaped selection typical of the Abruzzo tradition, with firm flesh and intense flavour, ideal for local preserves.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A medium-sized indeterminate plant, traditionally grown in Abruzzo vegetable gardens.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant outdoors from April, with light staking.
Traditional staked cultivation, with regular watering and organic fertilising following Abruzzo farming practice.
The pear-shaped fruit weighs about 60-80 g, with firm red skin and very few seeds, ideal for hanging and storing.
A rustic variety, still worth protecting from downy mildew in particularly humid seasons.
Perfect for sauces and preserves, following the Abruzzo tradition of hanging tomatoes for winter storage.
Rich in lycopene and vitamin C, Perbruzzo tomato has antioxidant properties and a concentrated, slightly sweet flavour.
