San Marzano yellow Solania tomato is the golden variant of the historic Campanian ecotype: it keeps the characteristic elongated shape, with a yellow colouring that makes it unusual and decorative.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A vigorous indeterminate plant, with the same habit as the traditional San Marzano.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; transplant into the field from April-May, with vertical staking.
Cultivation identical to red San Marzano, with balanced fertilising and regular watering for even fruit development.
The elongated fruit, about 80-100 g, shows the typical cylindrical shape but with bright yellow skin at ripeness.
Like other San Marzano selections, monitor for downy mildew in high-humidity conditions.
Ideal for sauces with an original, unusual golden colour, and for fresh eating thanks to its sweet, less acidic taste than the red type.
Rich in beta-carotene as well as lycopene, San Marzano yellow Solania tomato has antioxidant properties and a delicate flavour.
