Triomphant Cauliflower is a late, February-harvest variety, among the most established on the professional market. It stands out for its compact head, beautifully pure white, well protected by the foliage, with excellent frost resistance.
Its botanical name is Brassica oleracea var. botrytis, belonging to the Cruciferae family (Brassicaceae). The plant shows vigorous vegetative growth and remarkable hardiness, with a head that can reach 1.6 kg in weight at maturity.
Transplanting is done from July to August, for a winter harvest that typically takes place in February, sometimes extending into early March. The growing cycle requires around 160-180 days from transplant to head maturity.
Triomphant cauliflower prefers medium-textured, cool, well-drained soils with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5, in a sunny position. Its high frost tolerance makes it particularly suited to the harshest winter conditions, keeping head quality intact even in cold temperatures.
A transplanting distance of about 50x50 cm is recommended, along with generous feeding to support the plant's long growing cycle.
Given its long time in the field, it is important to keep the soil free of weeds throughout the growing cycle. Periodically monitor plant health, especially during the coldest months leading up to harvest.
Like other Brassicaceae, it can be affected by downy mildew and bacterial diseases, favoured by prolonged humidity. Cabbage white caterpillars are the most common pests: good weed control and targeted Bacillus thuringiensis treatments help keep them in check.
Triomphant cauliflower is low in calories yet highly nutritious, rich in vitamin C, fibre and minerals such as potassium and phosphorus. It is an excellent source of fresh vegetables during the winter months, when seasonal produce is more limited.
