Green Magnifico Cauliflower, also known as "late green Macerata cauliflower", is an F1 variety with a late growing cycle, requiring around 130-140 days from transplant. The green head is compact and of excellent quality, well protected by the foliage.
The Green Magnifico Cauliflower Plant
Its botanical name is Brassica oleracea var. botrytis, belonging to the Cruciferae family (Brassicaceae). The plant is vigorous, with good leaf coverage of the head, and is typical of production in the Macerata area, from which it takes its popular name "green Macerata".
How to Sow Green Magnifico Cauliflower
Being a late variety, transplanting should be scheduled well ahead of the desired harvest. The 130-140 day growing cycle allows for staggered maturity suited to autumn and winter harvests.
How to Grow Green Magnifico Cauliflower
Green Magnifico cauliflower prefers medium-textured, cool, well-drained soils with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Unlike white varieties, the green head develops correctly even when exposed to light, since its colour comes from the chlorophyll present in the tissues.
Harvest when the florets of the head are still tightly closed and compact, cutting plants at the collar and leaving a few protective leaves.
