Green Magnifico cauliflower is an unusual variety with a distinctive bright green colour, valued for its delicate flavour and high field yield.
Its botanical name is Brassica oleracea var. botrytis, belonging to the Cruciferae family (Brassicaceae). The plant forms a compact, firm curd, bright green instead of the classic white, protected by broad leaves.
The growing cycle is around 90-100 days from transplanting, with staggered sowing possible from spring to late summer for autumn and winter harvests.
It prefers cool, deep, well-fed soils, with sunny exposure and regular watering, especially during curd formation.
Keep soil moisture constant and avoid temperature swings to prevent premature bolting. Respect transplanting distances to promote good airflow.
Like other Brassicaceae, it can be affected by cabbage white caterpillars, aphids and flea beetles; watch out for downy mildew in overly humid conditions.
Green cauliflower is rich in minerals, fibre and vitamins A, C and B-group. It has antioxidant and detoxifying properties, thanks also to the chlorophyll that gives it its colour.
