The Rodeo Spicy Stuffing Pepper produces very small, cherry-shaped fruits with an intense red color at ripeness. The flesh is mildly spicy, with intensity varying depending on growing conditions, and is perfect for stuffing as a small filled pepper or preserving in oil.
Its botanical name is Capsicum annuum, belonging to the Solanaceae family. The plant has a compact habit with good branching, along which an abundant crop of small, round fruits is distributed.
Its heat level sits around 10,000 Scoville units, a moderate level that makes this variety approachable even for those not used to intense heat.
Protected sowing takes place in February-March, while outdoor sowing can be done in April-May, with a minimum temperature of at least 18°C. Transplanting takes place once the risk of late frosts has passed, once the seedlings have developed a few true leaves.
The Rodeo Spicy Stuffing Pepper prefers fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny position sheltered from wind. Thanks to the plant's compact habit, it also adapts well to container growing on a balcony or terrace.
Weekly fertilization, especially during summer, helps maintain long, abundant flowering throughout the season. Watering should stay regular, avoiding waterlogging.
Harvest takes place from July to October, once the fruits have reached their characteristic intense red color. Since this variety is mainly grown for oil preserves or stuffing, regular picking is useful to process freshly harvested fruits.
Like other pepper varieties, it can be subject to attacks by aphids and red spider mites, controllable with natural garlic or nettle macerates, and to root rot in case of prolonged waterlogging. Good soil drainage and crop rotation, avoiding repeated Solanaceae cultivation on the same plot for several consecutive years, are important preventive measures.
The Rodeo Spicy Stuffing Pepper is rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene and natural antioxidants, with a good potassium content. Its mild heat, due to the presence of capsaicin, can also aid digestion when consumed in moderation.
