Costadoro Yellow Pepper

The Costadoro Yellow Pepper produces fruits with a regular, block-like shape, thick flesh and intense yellow color at full ripeness. It is an elongated variety that ripens earlier than square peppers, ideal for fresh eating, stuffing or grilling.

The Costadoro Yellow Pepper Plant

Its botanical name is Capsicum annuum, belonging to the Solanaceae family. The plant has an upright habit and, once it reaches 10-15 cm in height, needs staking to grow vertically and keep the fruits off the ground.

The thick, meaty flesh makes this variety particularly resistant to transport and suited to longer storage compared to thinner-skinned types.

How to Sow Costadoro Yellow Pepper

Sowing takes place in a protected seedbed from January to March, keeping a constant temperature around 20-22°C to encourage even germination. Transplanting outdoors or into pots takes place in April-May, once night temperatures are steadily above 12°C.

How to Grow Costadoro Yellow Pepper

The Costadoro Yellow Pepper prefers fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny position sheltered from wind. Periodic hoeing to remove weeds is very useful: it prevents other vegetation from absorbing nutrients meant for the pepper plant.

Watering should stay regular, avoiding both prolonged drought and waterlogging, which can encourage root rot.

Tips for Growing Costadoro Yellow Pepper

Harvest when the fruits have reached their characteristic intense yellow color and the flesh feels firm to the touch. A base organic fertilization with well-rotted manure or compost supports plant development throughout the production cycle.

Diseases and Pests of the Costadoro Yellow Pepper

Like other pepper varieties, it can be subject to attacks by aphids and red spider mites, controllable with natural garlic or nettle macerates, and to root rot in case of prolonged waterlogging. Good soil drainage and crop rotation, avoiding repeated Solanaceae cultivation on the same plot for several consecutive years, are important preventive measures.

Properties of the Costadoro Yellow Pepper

The Costadoro Yellow Pepper is rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene and phenolic compounds with notable anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. The yellow flesh is tender and juicy, with a good fiber content that supports digestive regularity.
