The Zlutasek Square Citrine Pepper, a "half-horn" type typical of Eastern European countries, produces medium-sized, square-elongated fruits, about 7x9 cm, with flesh roughly 6 mm thick that turns from citrine yellow to orange-red at full ripeness. It is especially known for its high digestibility.
Its botanical name is Capsicum annuum, belonging to the Solanaceae family. The plant has medium vigor, is resistant and productive, with good tolerance to Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV).
It prefers well-fertilized soil to fully express its productive potential.
Protected sowing takes place in February-March, while field transplanting occurs in April-May, once the risk of late frosts has passed. It adapts well to both greenhouse and open field cultivation.
The Zlutasek Square Citrine Pepper prefers fertile, well-fertilized soil, in a sunny position. Thanks to the plant's medium vigor, it does not require particularly intensive care, though it benefits from regular irrigation during fruit development.
Harvest can take place both at the citrine yellow stage and at full ripeness, when the fruits turn orange-red. Thanks to its crisp skin and high digestibility, it is particularly valued by the fresh market for consumption in salads or as pickles.
The variety shows good resistance to Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV). Like other pepper varieties, it can still be subject to attacks by aphids and red spider mites, controllable with natural garlic or nettle macerates, and to root rot in case of prolonged waterlogging. Good soil drainage and crop rotation, avoiding repeated Solanaceae cultivation on the same plot for several consecutive years, are important preventive measures.
The Zlutasek Square Citrine Pepper is rich in vitamin C and provitamin A, with natural antioxidant properties. It is particularly suitable for those looking for an easily digestible pepper, gentle even on sensitive stomachs.
