Castello F1 cabbage is an established, versatile white round variety, prized for its lovely green colour and excellent market presentation.
Its botanical name is Brassica oleracea var. capitata, belonging to the Cruciferae family (Brassicaceae). The plant has medium vigour and adapts easily to different conditions. The head is round-oval in shape, very compact, with good resistance to splitting in the field.
The growing cycle is around 80-90 days from transplanting, suitable for both summer and autumn harvests depending on the growing area.
A hardy variety, it adapts easily even to difficult environmental conditions. It prefers medium-textured, well-drained soils, with steady water availability throughout the growing cycle.
Ensure regular watering, especially during head formation, to achieve a compact, firm head. Respect transplanting distances to promote good airflow within the crop.
Like other Brassicaceae, it can be affected by cabbage white caterpillars and aphids. This variety's good split resistance makes it notably tougher compared to other cultivars.
Cabbage is rich in minerals, fibre, iron and vitamins A, C, B1 and B2. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and detoxifying properties, supports the immune system and helps lower blood pressure.
