Cappuccino ribbed tomato is a marmande variety, slightly flattened with marked ribs, producing abundant fruits with firm, sweet flesh.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. A vigorous indeterminate plant, suitable for both open field and greenhouse cultivation, with clusters of 2-4 fruits.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, with soil temperature between 20 and 25°C; transplant after the last frosts, in late spring.
It prefers fertile, well-drained soil, even already worked soils, with sunny exposure and regular watering; the plant needs staking and periodic side-shoot removal.
Harvest is staggered from July to September; fruits weighing between 200 and 300 grams should be picked at full ripeness to best appreciate their firm flesh and intense flavour.
A variety naturally resistant to TSWV virus, cladosporiosis, nematodes and common soil-borne diseases; crop rotation and good ventilation further help prevent the main problems.
Thanks to their firm, sweet flesh, the fruits are suitable both for fresh consumption in salads and for making sauces and preserves, appreciated for their generous size.
Rich in lycopene, potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants, Cappuccino tomato has beneficial properties for overall wellbeing.
Per 100 grams, Cappuccino tomato provides about 18 kcal, 0.9 g protein, 3.9 g carbohydrates, 0.2 g fat and 1.2 g fibre.
