Riviera Cuorbenga oxheart tomato is a highly productive variety of Ligurian origin, producing sturdy fruits up to 300 grams, highly resistant to cracking.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate plant originating from the western Ligurian coast, with continuous growth in height and good productivity.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, with soil temperature between 20 and 25°C; transplant after the last frosts, in late spring.
It prefers fertile, well-drained soil typical of coastal areas, with sunny exposure and regular watering; the plant needs staking and periodic side-shoot removal.
Harvest is staggered from July to September; thanks to its excellent crack resistance, fruits can stay on the plant longer without deteriorating.
It can be affected by downy mildew, alternaria and blossom-end rot in case of irregular watering; crop rotation and good ventilation help prevent the main plant diseases.
The flavourful pulp and low seed content make it ideal for fresh consumption in salads, though it also works well for sauces thanks to its generous size.
Rich in lycopene, potassium and vitamin C, Cuorbenga tomato has antioxidant properties beneficial to overall wellbeing.
Per 100 grams, Cuorbenga tomato provides about 18 kcal, 0.9 g protein, 3.9 g carbohydrates, 0.2 g fat and 1.2 g fibre.
