The Horus red cluster tomato is a historic hybrid variety grown for cluster harvest, valued for its high yield and resistance to cracking typical of round Italian tomatoes.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate plant of medium vigour, with closely spaced flower trusses and excellent flower fertility.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March; greenhouse transplanting starts in February, open-field transplanting between late March and mid-April with protection.
It needs staking, spacing of about 40 cm along the row and 100 cm between rows, regular NPK feeding and moderate but steady watering to prevent fruit cracking.
The smooth, round fruits, weighing about 100-150 g, are harvested as whole clusters once they turn red, with a characteristic light green shoulder remaining.
It shows good tolerance to blossom-end rot and high temperatures, plus genetic resistance to Fusarium, tomato mosaic virus and Cladosporium leaf mould.
This classic Italian red cluster tomato is perfect for bruschetta, excellent raw in salads and also great stuffed and baked thanks to its firm flesh.
Rich in lycopene, vitamin C and potassium, red cluster tomato has antioxidant properties beneficial for cardiovascular health.
