The Oliver half San Marzano tomato is an easy-to-grow, medium vigour and highly productive variety, producing clusters of small tomatoes resistant to blossom-end rot and various diseases.
It belongs to the species Solanum lycopersicum, family Solanaceae. An indeterminate plant of medium vigour, generously productive even in less than ideal conditions.
Sow in a heated seedbed between February and March, with soil temperature between 20 and 25°C; transplant between April and May.
Thanks to its rusticity it is suited to both open-field and greenhouse cultivation; it needs staking and regular watering to sustain fruiting in clusters.
The fruits, gathered in clusters, are oval shaped and turn from green to fiery red at full ripeness: harvest once fully coloured for the best flavour.
A distinctive trait of this variety is its good resistance to blossom-end rot and several plant diseases; good canopy ventilation still helps prevent downy mildew and powdery mildew.
Thanks to its firm flesh and regular shape it is ideal both for fresh table use and for homemade sauces and preserves.
Rich in lycopene, vitamin C and potassium, Oliver tomato has antioxidant properties beneficial to overall wellbeing.
